One of Hollywood’s true legends, Jerry Lewis is a comedian, award-winning actor, director, writer, singer, and dramatic teacher. Though perhaps best known as half of the “Martin and Lewis” comedy team, alongside Dean Martin, Jerry also earned the moniker “The King of Comedy” for his roles in such comedy hits as The Ladies Man (1961), The Nutty Professor (1963), and The Family Jewels (1965). Jerry’s comedic genius have extended through decades of TV and film performances, earning him France’s Legion d’honneur in 2006 as the “French people’s favorite clown.” He also received widespread acclaim for his dramatic role in Martin Scorcese’s 1983 film The King of Comedy. Not only have Jerry’s film and TV accomplishments helped shape the industry, he also helped found the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 1952—and ever since has been a tireless supporter and money-raiser for the cause.
